HKBP Harean is one of the local churches whichis relatively small compared to other local churches. Poverty is seen from the lack of fulfillment of basic needs. Seeing the condition of the congregation, the church provides charitable diaconal services, but the congregation cannot stand alone. This study aims to find out the description and efforts made by the church towards poor congregations. To obtain information the authors collect data through observation, interviews and literature study. The collected data were analyzed descriptively in three stages, namely data reduction, data presentation and conclusion.

The results of the research are as follows: First, the general description of poverty in HKBP Harean is that congregations experience difficulties in meeting basic needs such as groceries, clothing and shelter. This is caused of low education factors and human resources that are still lacking. Second, the form of diaconal service carried out by the church is a charitable diaconal ministry. Third, the efforts made by HKBP Harean for poor congregations are to provide material assistance, such as financial assistance to children who come from poor families, providing groceries to less fortunate congregations and providing remission of contribution payments to congregations.
